HOME-based businesses have now been included for the latest round of applications for the £6.8 million Discretionary Grant Fund for businesses affected by Covid-19 has been widened, Bradford Council has announced.

The second round of funding was announced last week and included small manufacturers, suppliers to the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, enterprise centres and local charities and childcare providers who have not received a business support grant.

This round of funding has now been expanded to include applications from home based businesses, though in order to qualify it must not be eligible for the Government’s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS).

The focus will remain on small and micro businesses and charities with fixed property costs who have suffered a significant impact on their income due to Covid-19.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We are continuing to do everything we can to support local businesses during this incredibly difficult time.

“Expanding this second round of applications for the Discretionary Grants to home based workers means that we can support a wider range of businesses that have been impacted by Covid-19.

“Due to the government’s deadline it is important those who are interested apply as soon as possible.”

Interested businesses should visit the council’s website for full details of the criteria and to fill in the online application form and providing evidence where requested.

Grant amounts for home based businesses will be determined based on the funding available after all other grants have been awarded.

Applications received under Round One of the Discretionary Grant Fund will be re-appraised under the new criteria there is no need to apply again and the council will inform all those who are eligible for the second round.

These grants are available to businesses that that aren’t eligible for other current Covid-19 business grants, were trading on the 11 March 2020 and who can confirm State Aid compliance.

The main eligibility criteria for the grant has been set by the government and the council’s Invest in Bradford team will offer advice and support to all applicants who are found not to qualify.

It is strongly advised that interested businesses carefully read all the guidance set out on the Council’s website before applying and ensure they meet the eligibility criteria and are clear what documentary evidence is required.

Interested businesses should apply online by 6pm, Friday 28 August 2020.

A reminder that the government’s Small Business Grant Fund and Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund will also close on 28 August.
