WEST Yorkshire Police are encouraging people to use a phone app that helps pinpoint their location.
The force is one of many emergency services - both in the UK and globally - that is accepting location names provided through what3words.
The app has generated a unique three-word codename for every 3m square in the world and uses your mobile phone’s GPS to confirm that the codename is for the exact spot where you are.
It works in emergencies by the caller telling the call handler their three word address. Promoting the app on its Facebook page, West Yorkshire Police said: “Knowing exactly where you are can allow help to be dispatched quicker in situations where every second is vital.
“What3words location names are accepted by West Yorkshire Police call handlers.”
