AN OTLEY supermarket employee has raised £1,000 for charity - by having her long hair chopped off.

Wendy Burnham was inspired to have her hair cut after meeting a young girl in Sainsbury’s Otley, where she works.

The meeting happened before last Christmas when the girl, who had been undergoing chemotherapy, told Wendy that she wanted ‘some hair’ from Santa.

Wendy decided there must be a way to do something to help children in a similar position and came up with the idea of losing her locks.

She had her hair cut a few weeks ago by friend and colleague Penni Harrison and also asked, at her recent 60th birthday, for donations instead of gifts.

The £1,000 that has been raised will go to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss, and children’s cancer charity Candlelighters.
