LOCAL play areas are about to start reopening.

Playgrounds in parks across Leeds were closed in March to limit the spread of COVID-19. With lockdown restrictions easing Leeds City Council has announced that facilities will begin to reopen from Thursday, July 16.

The reopening programme is being done gradually to ensure the council conforms to government guidelines about cleaning equipment and ensuring social distancing.

Play areas at Roundhay Park, Temple Newsam, Middleton Park and Lotherton Hall will all be reopened on July 16 along with the playground at The Arium, with more sites to follow.

Signs are being installed to remind users about the importance of safety rules including social distancing, hygiene and limiting numbers.

Executive Member for Environment and Active Lifestyles, Councillor Mohammed Rafique, said: “Adults and children need to follow good hygiene practices to ensure the play areas can be enjoyed by everyone.”
