INTEREST in the new Green Homes Grant appears to be high in Wharfedale.
The recently announced Government scheme involves £2 billion being provided to support work that makes homes more energy efficient.
Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) says ‘a lot of residents’ have been contacting him about the project, which launches in September. It works by homeowners making an online application for a voucher to help pay for a recommended energy efficiency measure.
Those details are forwarded to an accredited local supplier and, once they have issued a quote and the requested work has been approved, a voucher is issued towards the cost.
The Government will pay at least two-thirds of the cost of the improvements, up to £5,000 - with low-income households eligible to receive support up to £10,000 and without having to contribute. The vouchers will help pay for everything from loft and floor insulation to more efficient boilers.
