GYMNASTS from Olicana Gym Club proved that even a world pandemic can’t stop them from competing.
The 25 gymnasts aged from seven to 15 won five gold, five silver and three bronze at the Jumpz nationwide virtual gymnastics competition on Sunday. May 17.
Routines containing 10 skills had to be put together and practised at home and then filmed.
Videos were then sent to the organisers and judged.
Olicana Gym Club Owner and Head Coach Josette Cornish said: “It has been difficult for our competitive gymnasts who train up to 10 hours a week to find this drastically reduced overnight.
“We are running online interactive training but this virtual competition has been a brilliant way for them to stay motivated and focused.
“It has really given them a huge boost at what is a really unsettling time.
“I could not be prouder of the hard work and determination all the gymnasts have demonstrated. “
Olicana Gym Club which was established 10 years ago is based at Ghyll Royd School in Burley-in-Wharfedale and has over 400 members.
The club was forced to close at short notice on March 20 and is offering interactive online classes to all members until it is able to reopen.
