THE University of Bradford is breaking new ground with its first virtual careers fair

Its careers consultants say the civil service and hi-tech companies are on the hunt for new talent and employers want to recruit graduates and final-year students.

Employers taking part in the event on Wednesday include the Army, NHS, Civil Service Fast Stream, Santander, ScreenSkills, Covance, university ‘spin-out’ medical technology company Crystec Ltd, teacher training with Bradford Birth to 19 and others, plus ‘gateway’ services such as Opportunity China and the start-up entrepreneur programme for graduates.

Graduates and students can register at https://www.bradford.ac.uk/careers/services/careers-fairs/.

Joanne Beaumont, head of careers and employability, said the university was responding to the situation brought about by social restrictions imposed in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: “This is the first time we have held a virtual careers fair. Our focus is on finding new ways to connect national, regional and local businesses actively recruiting now with our student and graduate talent.

“Our virtual fair will see employers, students and graduates connecting through webinars, live group chats, and one-to-one meetings. In addition, our team of career professionals will be providing one-to-one appointments across the day and webinars on CV development, interview/assessment centre preparation and developing a standout LinkedIn profile.”

Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Zahir Irani said: “The University is fully committed to supporting our students in gaining employment or progressing their educational journey.

"Anything we can do to support students in gaining skills and securing employment has personal, societal and economic value. This event is all about facilitating that connection between employers and students.”

The virtual careers fair will take place on Wednesday from 10.30am-3.30pm.
