AN OBSTRUCTION has been removed from a public right of way in the Washburn Valley.
As reported in this newspaper, the path around Lindley Wood Reservoir was blocked off a few weeks ago with a metal gate and fence.
A note was attached to the obstruction by the landowner, citing fears about the spread of COVID-19.
Walkers immediately challenged the action and contacted North Yorkshire County Council and The Ramblers - and the route is now clear again.
Walkers are Welcome Otley Chair Jur Keessen said: “Clearly the pressure from walkers and North Yorkshire County Council, and the publicity given to the issue by the Wharfedale & Aireborough Observer, have resulted in this positive outcome.
“With the gradual lifting of the lockdown but people still largely restricted to their own area we need our rural rights of way more than ever - for exercise, fresh air and nature.”
