A WHEELIE bin fire is believed to have been caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette.

This happened on 4.30pm on Monday, March 30 at Parc Sychnant in Conwy.

A large quantity of rubbish was on fire.

One crew was sent from Conwy.

At 4.10pm there was also a blaze in The Oval, Llandudno.

A spokesperson from North Wales Fire and Rescue said: "It was a quantity of household rubbish in a skip.

"One crew was sent from Llandudno."

There was also a fire at 1.53pm on land in Llanfair Talhaiarn, which is located five miles south of Abergele in Conwy.

This was a fire in the open.

The spokesperson said: "This was 20 square metres of gorse and bracken.

"The cause is unknown."

Despite it being the burn period, the fire service is asking farmers and landowners to avoid carrying out controlled burning this year to help reduce demand.
