HEAVY winds and road closures due to flooding were not enough to deter hardy volunteers from planting around 400 trees at Neve’s Hill in Menston on Saturday, February 22.
The event was coordinated by BEAT Forest of Bradford and volunteers from Climate Action Menston.
Emma Dalton, of Climate Action Menston said: “During what seemed like a miraculously dry morning, the sun even came out in support of our activity. Species of tree were selected to support the bee hives on site, including plenty of hawthorn and cherry. When mature, the trees will enhance the right of way that exists here for walkers along the line of the old railway, and it is hoped, further enhance biodiversity in this tucked away corner of Menston on the border with Burley-in-Wharfedale. It was great too that secondary pupils from local schools took part, including St Mary’s in Menston. BEAT Forest of Bradford have plenty of opportunities for volunteers, which are regularly updated on their Facebook page. You don’t have to have volunteered before!”
