THE JUNGLE will be the theme of Horsforth’s fifth art’s festival this summer.

The Walk of Art, which takes place in July, is a free, community led event, which aims to showcase creativity by local and ‘almost local’ artists and performers in everyday and unusual spaces. Organisers hope to inspire the community to make creativity accessible and engaging.

This year’s walk ‘In the Jungle’ will take place from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5.

Last year more than 120 artists displayed and performed numerous art forms in 83 venues split across three different routes around the town.

The lead organiser Kezia Roberts said: “We are looking forward to seeing who will join us again this year. We have been privileged to share the weekend with some incredible local talent from film makers, street artists and crafters to dancers and musicians.

“I obviously do not have favourites but I fell in love with the artwork from an art veteran and local artist, John Wood, such a rare talent of which we were fortunate enough to see through this event as it would usually be behind closed doors.”

This year will see the return of many favourite artists, venues and events such as the creature hide and seek and the High Street Galleries for which the volunteers were shortlisted for a Child Friendly Leeds Award 2020 for their work within all the local schools. Each venue and artist will offer a hands on experience for free and with the inclusion of new mini events such as an arty look at sustainability in Leeds.

Walk of Art organisers are taking applications for the event, closing on March 31.

Horsforth residents with space to house an artist for the weekend, or artists who would like to take part should visit the website www.Horsforthwoa.org for more information or search for their social media channels.

The Walk of Art is spread over nine miles of Horsforth across three routes. The exhibitions and events are housed in a wide variety of locations, including high street shops, churches, woodlands, the park, garages, gardens, houses, sheds and caravans.
