AN OTLEY school is celebrating holding a successful Reading Cafe.

Ashfield Primary held the event for parents, carers and relatives of Year 1 and Year 2 pupils on Friday, February 14.

Year 2 teacher Linda Morison was delighted with how the children and adults enjoyed the cafe - and the level of interest that was shown.

She said: “The aim of the event was to promote reading for pleasure and to highlight to parents how teaching children can be done through things like reading recipes and instructions.

“The day was a great success; 60 adults attended the cafe to read books and make fruit kebabs, pizza and musical instruments.

“And Waitrose, Otley kindly donated tea, biscuits and ingredients for the activities.”

Many schools now use Reading Cafes as a way of connecting the learning that pupils do at home with their school studies.
