A GUIDE Dogs fundraiser from Yeadon is bidding a fond farewell to his canine companion.

Kevin Beesting, who is the Co-ordinator of the Otley and Aireborough Guide Dogs Support Group, has raised more than £15,000 for the charity by taking on all kinds of challenges.

The 68 year old’s Guide Dog, Spencer, has been by his side for the past five years - the pair have walked some 7,000 miles together - but is now hanging up his harness to begin the next phase of his life as a pet.

Mr Beesting is sad to be saying goodbye to a dear friend - but has many happy memories of their experiences.

He said: “Spencer has given me the freedom to be able to go places, meet people, keep appointments and to help with the school runs without having to rely on other people.

“He has kept me fit through all our walks and has encouraged me to do more, including many endurance and fundraising challenges to raise money for guide dogs.

“Spencer I hope you will soon have a new playmate. I will never forget you - enjoy your retirement mate.” To fundraise for Guide Dogs send an e-mail to charlotte.walton@guidedogs.org.uk.
