OTLEY golfers have raised ‘an incredible amount’ for a local singing group that helps people with dementia.
The outgoing Golf Captains of Otley Golf Club, Gillian Mowat and Ian Lomas, held all kinds of fundraising events - including a ‘hit a bunker’ challenge - over the past year.
Their efforts raised a total of £5,227 which has now been presented to the Otley Courthouse-based Singing for the Brain group. Set up to provide musical therapy for those living with dementia and their carers, the group meets at the arts centre twice monthly.
The Courthouse’s Centre Director, Laura Kox, said: “The amount Gillian and Ian were able to raise left us quite speechless. It’s fantastic they lent their support to a local cause that benefits so many people.”
Singing for the Brain is led by Antony Davis and a group of Courthouse volunteers and currently has about 30 regular participants.
