EXTRA police patrols are being carried out in parts of Wharfedale following a rise in burglaries.

West Yorkshire Police says that the increased number of break-ins across the LS16 area, which includes Bramhope, over recent weeks is only ‘a blip’.

Replying to concerns raised by Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) the force said: “We are doing everything possible to ensure that it is only a blip and not a trend that will continue. Extra patrols are being carried out by uniformed and non-uniformed officers.

“These patrols have resulted in some fantastic results with proactive arrests and valuable intelligence gained.

“Ongoing investigations by the Leeds District Crime Team has led to the arrest and charge of five offenders linked to offences in the area, along with others that have been released but are still under investigation.”

The latest crime figures for Adel and Wharfedale - for offences recorded between December 28, 2019 and January 17, 2020 - showed a sharp spike in the number of burglaries in the Adel and Holt Park areas, which had nine and eight incidents respectively.

Only one burglary was reported in Bramhope over the same period.
