ILKLEY mum, Emma Moscrop will be leading a sponsored walk on Saturday to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Emma was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease three and a half years ago aged 46 when her sons were just seven and ten years old.

It was a shocking diagnosis as Parkinson’s is more commonly associated with older men. Emma walks rigorously twice a week with local friends to try to keep her symptoms at bay for as long as possible and she is now asking the local community (and their dogs) to walk with her and her boys on Saturday, January 25 in solidarity and friendship.

The walk aims to publicise that Parkinson’s can affect anyone no matter what age or sex and to raise much needed funds for the charity Parkinson’s UK to fund research into finding something to cure, or at least slow the progression of Parkinson’s as currently there is nothing available.

The walk will start at Heber’s Ghyll Drive in Ilkley at 1.10pm (at the bottom of the walk over the bridges up onto the moor - parking is available on the road just past Premiere Park on the left). Walkers will then leave Darwin Gardens car park off Wells Road at 1.45pm.

The final destination will be The Cow and Calf pub where everyone will be able to get a drink.

The first part of the walk up to the moor is an uphill climb all the way. The walk from Darwin Gardens is less steep.

Emma raised an amazing £4,500 for Parkinson‘s UK on her 50th birthday in October 2019 with the help of family and friends.
