LIBRARIES across the district – including Keighley – have launched a rhyme challenge.

As part of the initiative, parents and their children are invited to learn five rhymes together.

Those completing the challenge, which is open to under-fives, will receive a certificate from Bookstart Bear.

More than 7,000 people took part in a similar event last year, and Bradford library service – which devised the challenge – hopes that figure can be beaten this time.

Activities will be held at Keighley Library on four Saturdays – February 29 and March 7, 14 and 21 – at 11am.

The challenge also takes place in toddler groups, pre-schools, nurseries, schools and family hubs across the district.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: “Young children learn best through play, having fun and spending time with their parents. I’d encourage all mums and dads with a child under five to get involved with the rhyme challenge as they’ll be doing all three.”
