A NEW family history course starts at Rawdon Community Library this month.

The five-week course will begin on Thursday, January 16, and will take place from

1.30pm to 3.30pm. The cost is £35. It will use sources including the census returns, parish registers, birth certificates, military records, shipping lists and trade directories. It will also use the ‘Find My Past’ website and the British Newspaper Archive, both of which are free to use at the library.

A spokesman said: “The course is suitable for those researching or wanting to research their family history or the history of your home. This is a great opportunity to find out about your ancestors and local history.”

The Workers’ Educational Association will be running the course, which is being promoted by Aireborough Civic Society and the library. Enrol at the first session or go to https://enrolonline.wea.org.uk/online/coursesearch.aspx or phone 0300 303 3464. For further information phone 0113 2503580
