A YEADON based senior citizens club has raised more than £20,000 for charities over the last 20 years.
The club’s 34 members have been choosing a different charity to support every year ever since the fundraising was instigated by Winifred Brown, who has been a member for more than 35 years.
This year the club decided to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance - chosen after Winnifred’s nephew was airlifted by the charity at Otley Golf Club. Members have now supported the YAA four times and this year’s £1,000 collection means they have raised a total of £3,400 for the charity.
Winifred said: “They are a deserving charity and they make such a real difference to people’s lives across Yorkshire.”
Describing club members she said:”They are such a lovely bunch of people and all I do is leave a jar on the counter. I couldn’t raise this much money on my own, it really is a team effort.”
Previously, the club have raised money for the Army, the Air Force, the Navy, Lister House, Guide Dogs and Leeds Children’s Hospital.
