AIREDALE Hospital restricted visiting to one of its wards following an outbreak of flu. And relatives and other visitors are being asked to stay away from all wards at the Steeton hospital if they have flu-like symptoms.

Jill Asbury, Director of Nursing at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust said: “There are many strains of flu and along with the rest of Yorkshire and the Humber region we are seeing a rise in the number of patients with influenza-like illnesses. A very small number of our staff have also experienced these symptoms.

“In line with our infection prevention and control measures we recently restricted visiting to one of our wards. This is not unusual.

“We ask that visitors and relatives play their part by not coming to hospital if they have coughs, colds or flu-like symptoms; had vomiting and/or diarrhoea within the last 48 hour; or had contact with anyone with any of the above.

“We would advise anyone who has had any of the above symptoms not to visit friends and family in hospital until 48 hours after the symptoms have stopped.”
