THIS Sunday sees the 2019 finale of Ilkley Soul Club.

The special guest DJ is Phil Dick, the promoter of the famous Detroit and Motown A Go Go shows which have been held in Detroit for the last three years culminating in this year’s extravaganza to commemorate Motown’s 60th anniversary.

Phil has been visiting the USA and Detroit in particular for over 30 years to search out rare soul records and got married at Hitsville USA (the original home of the Tamla Motown empire on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit).

Over the years Phil got to know many of the original musicians and unsung heroes of the Motown and Northern Soul scenes.

Using this influence and contacts he first brought together many of the artists to perform at Detroit A Go Go back in 2017 and then again in in 2108.

This year was another spectacular to commemorate Motown’s 60th. Some of the acts to perform have been The Capitols, the Velvellettes, Tobi Lark, Willy Kendrick, The Dramatics, Carl Carlton and JJ Barnes.

Phil is a leading northern soul DJ in his own right and used to run all nighters in Bradford. He also runs the Cleethorpes Weekenders and DJ’s all over the country. His many trips to the USA have ensured that he has amassed a fantastic record collection.

Phil joins resident DJ’s Ian Smith, Keith Hudson and Daniel Steel for an afternoon of top class danceable soul played on original vinyl.

Ilkley Soul Club takes place at the Hollygarth Social Club on Leeds Road, Ilkley, starting at pm3 and going until 8.

Admission is £5 on the door.
