TWO Leeds Trinity University staff members spoke at a national event to raise awareness of the importance of the Living Wage.

Dr Ann Marie Mealey, senior lecturer in Theology, and Debbie Clark, who works for the university’s catering services, spoke in front of business leaders, workers and public sector figures at KPMG in Leeds.

The event was organised by The National Living Wage Foundation and Leeds Citizens - an organisation which works to promote social justice, and of which Leeds Trinity is a founding member.

Both staff members spoke about why the university is supporting the Living Wage campaign. Debbie was also the only delegate at the event who receives the Living Wage.

She said: “I feel lucky to be able to tell my story because mine has a happy ending, I’m earning the Living Wage. But for many this is not the case and so the fight continues.”

Dr Mealey has co-edited a book on social justice and citizenship.
