AN OTLEY GP practice is asking residents and patients to help it support the homeless this Christmas.

Westgate Surgery, part of the OnePrimaryCare group, is accepting donations throughout December of items that will help people without a home get through the coldest weeks of the year.

Unwanted blankets, sleeping bags and clothes can be dropped off at the surgery and will be distributed before Christmas Day.

The Westgate team has also set up a Christmas tree at the practice which is the centre of a Toy Appeal to provide gifts for children of all ages who will be in Leeds General Infirmary over the festive period.

A surgery spokesperson said: “Toys, books and other small gifts would be hugely appreciated by young inpatients and their families during a difficult time.” The deadline to donate to both causes is Monday, December 16.

The practice, meanwhile, is reminding people that it will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
