OTLEY’S Town Mayor has hailed the ‘magnificent’ historical wartime archive that is now based in the town.
Councillor Peter Jackson visited the Second World War Experience Centre on Friday, November 22. Its collection holds the wartime memoirs, diaries, letters, documents and interviews of more than 10,000 men and women.
The centre moved to Otley from Walton in July, thanks to the support of Trustee Robert Fleming, and its Cross Green base now welcomes visiting researchers, historians, authors and volunteers.
Cllr Jackson said: “I was delighted to visit and meet the staff that put all the magnificent historical archives together; I was very impressed with the dedication of the team. I would highly recommend anyone who has a family connection to World War Two to visit.”
The centre is a registered charity that relies on public support and volunteer help - for more details visit https://war-experience.org/.
