ILKLEY remembered its fallen heroes on Sunday.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Doreen Lee, led a parade along The Grove of civic dignitaries including Ilkley Town Mayor, Councillor Mark Stidworthy, The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Mr Roger Whittaker and local and district councillors.

The parade also included veteran and serving soldiers of the British Armed Forces, cadets, guides, brownies, cubs and scouts.

Following the parade along The Grove there was a Remembrance Service and wreath laying ceremony in the Memorial Gardens, Ilkley, at 3pm.

The service attracted large crowds who turned out to pay tribute to those who laid down their lives, not only in the Great War of 1914-1918 but in all the conflicts that the people of Britain and the Commonwealth countries have fought since.

The service was led by the Rev Mike Coe with other Clergy from different faiths in Ilkley in attendance. A collection was held with all donations directly sent to the Royal British Legion.

There was a dedication to the palm tree that has been planted in dedication to all the service men and women who served in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Mediterranean.

Remembrance Services were also held in Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston.
