AN OTLEY-BASED writer, editor and publisher has won a major award.

Heather Dawe was one of four editors, along with Helen Mort, Claire Carter and Camilla Barnard, who produced Waymaking: An Anthology of Women’s Adventure Writing, Poetry and Art. The book has just won the Mountain Literature (Non Fiction) category of the 2019 Banff Mountain Book Competition Awards.

That means Waymaking is in with a chance of winning the competition’s Grand Prize which will be announced on Thursday, October 31. Heather said: “It feels amazing to have won. I was one of four editors and over fifty contributors to Waymaking.

“This is a collective achievement of many and I consider myself very lucky to be heading out to Banff, Canada at the end of the month to the prize-giving at the book festival.”

Waymaking was praised by the competition’s jury. Paul McSorley said: “This superb collection of women’s short stories, poems and illustrations is full of gems from end to end.

Heather’s Little Peak Press, meanwhile has just published its second book - an illustrated journal of cycling in and around Wharfedale by her entitled A Cycling Year.
