AUGUSTINERKANTOREI, an acclaimed 110-person strong choir from Erfurt, Germany, is visiting West Yorkshire for a concert tour in October, culminating in a performance at St Margaret’s Church in Ilkley on Saturday, October 19.

The week-long tour, taking in Cathedrals, Minsters and churches across Yorkshire, has been organised as part of the Erfurt and Leeds Diocesan link which has been in place since 1997.

Augustinerkantorei, founded in 1877, are visiting the region as representatives of the monastery in the former East German city where Martin Luther was a monk.

St Margaret’s Church on Queen’s Road will host the choir’s grand finale, a concert of sacred choral music, on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 7.30pm. Doors will open at 7pm with free entry and a cash bar, and a retiring collection.

The choir will sing a selection of music spanning seven centuries from the 15th to 21st, including works by J. S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Holst, Rinck, Reger, Peeters and Pärt.

This is a marvellous chance to hear a choir of massed voices singing a wide range of music in a wonderful setting.
