A TEENAGE archer from Otley is celebrating a medal-winning performance in Europe.
Joe Fairburn, a Year 13 student at Prince Henry’s Grammar School, won the Bronze Medal in the Junior Men’s Recurve category at the European Field Archery Championship in Slovenia. Joe, who turns 18 on Thursday, October 17 had to endure 12 months of tournaments across Great Britain and Northern Ireland to qualify for the event. His success, shooting for Archery GB, means he has automatic qualification for next year’s World Field Archery Championship in Yankton, USA.
The award-winning teenager competes in both target and field archery and has been national champion in both,
Deputy Head of PE and Excellence in Sport and Education Programme (ESEP) lead at Prince Henry’s, Dean Hyam, said: “This is another fantastic achievement for Joe.
“We will watch the World Championships with great interest.”
