A MENSTON art group is staging its first exhibition this month.

The Chevin Watercolour Group is displaying paintings in a basement exhibition at the Bramble Bakehouse in Guiseley.

The friends who meet every week, are all enthusiastic amateurs who paint using watercolour.

Founder member, Sara Hargreaves said: “Some of us paint in more formal art clubs in the area, but we’re really just a group who enjoy getting together every week to paint. “There are no expectations and no pressures – we paint what we like and get support from each other. Our first exhibition will give people chance to have a look at original artworks in a relaxed setting, with a coffee and cake. If we sell some of our paintings it would be a bonus.”

Jo Adams, from the cafe, said: “At Brambles we love to be able to support people in the local community by giving them somewhere to meet, sell arts and crafts and display their work. Since we opened three and a half years ago, we’ve hosted exhibitions by a range of local artists and community groups like Tales Told Festival, Aireborough Camera Club, Darren Sanderson Photography and Danni Burgess to name a few.”

The cafe is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday with homemade cakes and meals. The exhibition runs throughout October, admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
