1ST BURLEY Brownies hope to see as many former Brownies and leaders at their 100th birthday afternoon tea this Saturday. The unit, first started in 1919 by Miss Marjorie Shepherd met in the garages of Scalebor Hospital before moving to a purpose built home at the bottom of Hag Farm Road. In the 1960s they moved to Peel Place and this summer moved into the new Scout and Guide HQ.
1st Burley Brownies leader Sharon Hattersley said: “In that time we’ve welcomed many hundreds of girls through our doors and been helped by many, many great volunteers. We would like to invite all of them to join us between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday 21st September at the Scout and Guide HQ in Burley for tea and cake, plenty of old photos, a chance to see some of our archives and the opportunity to share memories, catch up with old friends and learn about what Brownies is like in 2019.”
