FOR the third year running Ilkley Arts and local artists have teamed up with Nell Bank, Outdoor Education Centre on Denton Road, Ilkley to add colour to its next Open Weekend which is taking place on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22.

The event coincides with the start of the UCI World cycle Championships in Yorkshire. Part of this race will come through Ilkley on the following weekend.

Artists inspired by the bike theme and colours of the UCI rainbow jersey - red, black, green, yellow and blue - are creating a number of art installations.

Children and families can follow the five colour trails to find them. Contributing artist Lucia Smith said: “We are working on bicycle wheels, to create an exciting moving sculpture - children will be able to spin the wheels as they pass.”

On site there will be a pop-up gallery showcasing the work of all the contributing artists. The artists are Jo Tinker, Lucia Smith, Azu Fletcher, Louise Hepworth-Wood, Libby Jubb, Howard and Carol Gardiner.

Dan Goodey, Nell Bank Centre Manager said: “We are delighted to be working with Ilkley Arts again as the artists add so much creativity to the event. We can’t wait to see what they have created for us all this year.”

As well as the trails around the beautiful grounds the award winning adventure playground and water-play area will be open for visitors as well as other activities. Homemade cakes and hot drinks will be provided in the café area.

The centre will be open from 10am to 3pm each day and tickets cost £3 per person (children under two are free) with all money raised split between the two charities - Nell Bank Charitable Trust and Ilkley Arts.

The Open Weekend is hugely popular and visitors are advised to pre-register or purchase tickets in advance from www.nellbank.com
