THE life of Ilkley tenor James Griffett will be celebrated this month.

Mr Griffett died last month and was buried at Tarn Moor, but a celebration of his life and music will be held on Saturday September 21 from 1.30pm to 3pm at St. John’s Church, Ben Rhydding. All are welcome.

Colleagues from around the country will be coming to sing for him one last time.

Mr Griffett had a long and distinguished career both as a solo performer and a teacher, in this country and overseas.

Along with his wife Cathy he organised the Annual Charity Concert for the Street Children - staged every year for 21 years until the final performance in 2017.

The concerts raised thousands of pounds for children’s charities over the years. For many people in Ilkley they marked the real start of the Christmas period and gave an opportunity to hear pieces outside the normal run of carols.
