NORTHERN Gas Networks has unveiled a new robot which will help speed up roadworks across Bradford.
The robot, nicknamed STAN, can travel through underground gas pipes to carry out repairs, and is being used on two jobs every week.
It will help save time and money and reduce disruption by limiting the number and size of holes which need to be dug.
It is fitted with a camera and applies a special ‘flexspray’ to fix damage.
Richard Hynes-Cooper, head of innovation, said: “This is good news for motorists, as it means fewer roadworks, and good news for the environment, as we don’t need to dig as many holes.
“STAN will also help us keep customers’ bills affordable. Early indications are that we can save £2,000 per job.”
