CLASSES on everything from improvisation to Italian will start at an Otley school in September.

Prince Henry's Grammar School has finalised details for this year's Community Education Programme, which begins on Monday, September 16.

As always languages will feature heavily with 31 courses, for all levels, in ten different languages available this time. A variety of hobbies, healthy living and wellbeing classes are also being run and students can enrol - by post or in person - up until the starting week.

Playful Being coach Mel Taylor, who will be leading the Improv courses, said: "It’s great for confidence building and stress relief and you don’t need any experience."

Other subjects focused on relaxation and creativity include an Introduction to Mediation or Dru Yoga, and there will also be courses on short story writing, African drumming, guitar, bee-keeping, and sewing - plus a new, ten week module called Looking Forward to Later Life.

The language classes, meanwhile, cover everything from French, German, Italian and Spanish to Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Polish and Turkish. Programme Director Christopher Lillington said: "Our Community Education students have told us that one of the things they like about our courses is that they are being taught language they can use in real situations and do not have to sit exams.

"They also enjoy being able to sign up for ten weeks at a time, rather than having to pay for a full 30 weeks at the start of the year. Our popular language courses, combined with our hobbies and wellbeing classes, allow us to present a really rounded set of courses for local people."

Potential students are invited to attend the enrolment evening which runs from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, September 5.
