ILKLEY Cycling Club riders competed in big events against national level opposition last week.

Wednesday evening saw another excellent promotion of the Otley Town races, which were held in great weather and drew large crowds.

A large Ilkley contingent travelled as supporters and enjoyed a super night out, and witnessed Richard Kelt being the top Ilkley performer with a hard fought 10th place in the 2/3/4 category race.

The 100-mile National Time Trial Championships were held in Yorkshire on the tough Dishforth / Walshford circuit, taking in the notorious Red Wall climb.

Race winner, Marcin Bialoblocki, recorded an amazing time of 3:24.55.

Ilkley’s long distance specialist, Doug Hart, averaged over 25mph for the hundred miles with 3:58:59, giving him a fine 15th place.

The National Youth Circuit Racing Championships were held on the difficult Oliver’s Mount Circuit at Scarborough and attracted the top youth riders from all over the country.

Ilkley’s riders performed solidly mid-field, with Ben Houlihan 41st in the Youth A and Joe Turnbull 50th in the Youth B.

It was also good to see some youngsters performing well who have moved on from Ilkley CC to represent other clubs/teams.
