LEEDS Bradford Airport is to feature in a new six-part documentary series.

ITV’s Yorkshire Airport was filmed over the course of summer 2018 and will be launched on Tuesday, July 16.

The series will follow the stories and characters at the heart of LBA - giving an insight into the work going on behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.

The series kicks off with an emergency landing, a blocked international arrivals door and a plane-load of Ibiza-bound passengers enduring a six hour delay.

The documentary focusses on the work of a duty manager, a passenger services agent, an airside operations manager, baggage handlers, and a security supervisor.

On its website ITV says: “Leeds Bradford may not be the UK’s biggest airport, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in ambition. With owners having green lighted a huge multi million pound investment, the airport is undergoing a huge makeover.

“A recent Department of Transport report expects that Leeds Bradford will be the nation’s fastest growing airport and hit passenger numbers of 7 million per year by 2030

“But it’s the next 12 months that are critical to the workforce of over 2000 of Yorkshire’s finest, as they aim to bring through the doors an extra 500,000 new passengers.

“Despite its long term goals, the airport still maintains its warm and witty northern charm, and the series focuses on a dozen staff who go above and beyond every day to keep the terminal and airfield running.”

It adds: “All the Yorkshire Airport staff share the same ambition this summer - to keep the passengers happy, the planes flying, and to make sure Leeds Bradford is well on its way to becoming the number one airport in the North - and there’s ‘nowt’ wrong with that.”

Leeds Bradford Airport Chief Executive Hywel Rees said: “A year ago, Leeds Bradford Airport took part in the ITV documentary to highlight its great ambitions, warm characters and big personalities. The documentary demonstrates the day to day operation of the airport, our staff’s problem solving skills and professionalism under pressure, as well as the good humour of passengers and staff. We value our role as a crucial gateway to and from the North and the programme showcases the breadth of international destinations accessible from the airport. We hope everyone enjoys seeing Yorkshire’s airport on the small screen.”

The first episode of Yorkshire Airport will be shown at 8.30pm on Tuesday, July 16.
