THE TOWN Mayor has attended the launch of a new book by a local author and runner.

Heather Dawe read some excerpts from her new work, High Inspiration, at the event on Friday, June 28.

The launch was held at The Art Works, in Otley, on Friday, June 28 when Town Mayor Councillor Peter Jackson was among the guests.

High Inspiration is based on Otley author Heather's experiences while undertaking the Tour de Mont Blanc, a long distance route through the heart of the Alps.

The book, Heather's third, describes her journey, its challenges and how they affected her, and the incredible scenery she got to see.

She also used the occasion to announce the launch of her own, Otley-based publishing business - Little Peak.

Cllr Jackson said: "I was delighted to attend the book launch and get to know more about the author.

"Heather is not just a gifted writer, she is also a very talented artist - as we witnessed on the evening with a display of her artwork.

"The evening was a great success and everyone in the room was captivated by Heather's reading from her book and looking at her artwork.

"Afterwards I sat down at home and opened my signed copy and started reading it, and from the start I was engrossed.

"Reading through chapter after chapter you are on the journey with Heather and treated to a magnificent description of the mountains and villages she has experienced."
