OTLEY Walking Festival has got off to a ‘fantastic’ start - despite some decidedly mixed weather.

This year’s event got underway on Saturday, June 22 and runs through until Sunday, June 30. Packed with more than 50 events - including walks based around poetry, industrial heritage and cakes as well as talks and films - it has proved as popular as ever in spite of some wet conditions.

Festival Committee Chair Ruth Blackwell said: “The festival got off to a fantastic start on Saturday and all the walks have been well attended.

“All of the feedback has been very positive too – everyone is really enjoying the festival and have commented on the warm Otley welcome they have received from walk leaders and other walkers.

“Even the rain can’t dampen the spirits of those attending. People have come from all over the country and further afield - even from Tenerife! - to take part, so our fame is spreading!

“We have at least six walks and events on during every day of the festival which ends with our Festival Finale on Sunday.”

Walks still to look forward to include an Afternoon Tea Stroll and the Chevin Historical Trail - for more details visit www.otleywalkingfestival.co.uk .
