FOUR Incommunities staff braved the chilly waters of Lake Windermere to help raise funds for a domestic abuse charity.

The housing group’s Chief Executive, Geraldine Howley joined colleagues Adrienne Reid, Greg Robinson and Mark Crane to take on a one-mile course on the lake as part of the Great North Swim.

The intrepid swimmers had been getting in some last minute training at Ilkley Lido and local pools in readiness for their challenge.

It paid off as their swim raised £1360 for Women’s Aid. Geraldine Howley said: “It was tough going on Windermere as we faced some really choppy and icy waters but we did it.

“Pounding the lengths at Ilkley helped shake off our rustiness and there are a few sore backs and shoulders today but it was worth it!

“A big thank you to everyone who has supported our swim challenge and colleagues who have said they will make donations.”

In previous years Geraldine and her team have taken the water to support the Prince’s Trust and homelessness charity, Crisis.
