DR Loraine Powell, a former University Lecturer and Government Adviser is the new president of Ilkley Soroptimists.
Speaking at a recent meeting she condensed her theme to just one word ‘shine’. Speakers will be shining a light on today’s key social and environmental issues. The international dimension of the Ilkley club will be highlighted through focusing on the development of their sixth friendship link in Turkey. Members also aim to add some sparkle to key community services and opportunities, particularly for women and girls. Firstly, a Garden Wander will take place on July 6th in Ilkley West to funds for the Clarke Foley Centre along with supporting women to develop good water management overseas. An international service organisation, with UN Consultative Status, the Soroptimists meet on the second and fourth Thursday at the Clarke Foley Centre. soroptimistilkley@gmail.com or call 07966247152 for further details.
