Holders Hanging Heaton have been knocked out of the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup by Wickersley Old Village.

The Yorkshire Premier League South side recovered from 44-5 to post a score of 189-9 before bowling out Hanging Heaton for 158.

Lee Shutt (44no) and Shahid Hussain (39) were the men who revived the Wickersley innings after Tom Chippendale (3-33) posed early problems.

Hanging Heaton struggled for momentum when they batted and once Callum Geldart (37) and Ismail Dawood (34) were dismissed the writing was on the wall. Garry Park was Wickersley’s key bowler with 5-45, while Chris Durham took 3-36.

Hoylandswaine were the second major casualties of the day as they suffered a two-run defeat at home to Barkisland in a low-scoring encounter

Barkisland were quickly reduced to 20-5 when they batted first as Waqas Maqsood (5-35) posed problems. Ethan Carrington (24no) was responsible for getting his side to 128.

It looked a small total but it took on much greater proportions once Hoylandswaine had slumped to 12-5. Gurman Ranhawa (31no) tried to revive his side but in a tense finish they were bowled out for 126. Luke Bridge picked up 3-29.

Five-time winners Wrenthorpe continued their bright start to the season with an emphatic 176-run win over Elland.

They were reduced to 6-2 before Khalil Khan (116no) and Luke Patel (101) shared a third-wicket stand of 215 which helped their side to a total of 257-4. Khan struck three sixes and five fours while Luke Patel hit two sixes and 10 fours.

Elland were skittled out for 81 with Matthew Race taking 4-25 and Jordan Sleightholme (3-9).

Townville skipper Jack Hughes took 5-29 to send Whitley Hall spinning to a 108-run defeat. The Yorkshire Premier League South side were all out for 99 when they replied to the Townville score of 207-6. Former Wrenthorpe player Greig Batty top scored with 40 not out.

Naveed Sayeed (46no), opener Kris Ward (40) and Harry Warwick (30) were the main contributors to the Townville total.

Spen Victoria forfeited their tie with Buttershaw St Paul's.
