OTLEY has started ‘buzzing’ with news about bees.

Wharfedale Beekeepers Association (WBKA) is holding a number of events in support of the United Nations World Bee Day, on May 20.

The small charity has teamed up with Otley Chamber of Trade and Otley Courthouse to raise awareness of the plight of the honey bee.

A World Bee Day window dressing competition has been set up to get the town’s shops involved, while a children’s bee trail - with bee facts posted in shop windows - has also been organised.

Trail entry forms are available at participating stores and completed forms can be dropped off in the ‘bee box’ at Otley Courthouse for a prize draw. WBKA President Peter Longbottom, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for everyone to learn about an insect that has been our friend since the beginning of time.” A variety of bee-related fun attractions will also be available at the Courthouse on Sunday, May 19.
