KEIGHLEY'S MP learned more about the work of a local employer when he dropped in to meet people at a business based in Hard Ings Road.

John Grogan visited Pets at Home, in Keighley Retail Park, where he was welcomed by the firms head of media and corporate affairs Gillian Hammond.

He was given a tour of the store and heard how the pet care company is boosting investment in both its people and physical stores, at a time when retail is increasingly going online.

He was also introduced to the Vets4Pets practice, viewing the on-site operating theatre and meeting some of the vets, nurses and care assistants that ensure expert pet care is at the heart of the business.

A Pets at Home spokesman said: "Our Keighley store is a significant local employer. Much of our group’s success is down to the dedication, commitment and expertise of our employees, working across the wide mix of services offered including pet retail products, grooming and vet treatments."

Mr Grogan said: “The British are well known as a nation of animal lovers. For example, one in four Keighley households owns a dog.

"I was pleased to see animal welfare was the number one priority at the Keighley branch of Pets at Home.

"We discussed a whole range of topics including the role foreign vets play in the United Kingdom and the need to continue to welcome them in future.”

Ms Hammond said: “We're very proud of our Keighley store and it was a fantastic opportunity to show John the hard work of our employees and their great relationship with our customers.

"It’s an exciting time for the business and we're grateful for the hard work of our entire team.”
