OTLEY’S MP has declared his backing for the Otley 2030 campaign.
The group is pushing to ensure that the town is carbon neutral - by pursuing a strategy for offsetting CO2 emissions - by 2030.
Leeds North West MP Alex Sobel. who sits on the Environmental Audit Committee in Parliament, found out more about the campaign while visiting this year’s Otley Green Fair.
He said: “I was delighted to meet Otley 2030 and discuss how we could bring some of the strategic work I’m doing in Parliament on electric vehicles, low carbon homes, hydrogen and waste reduction to Otley.
“It is important to work on a community scale on energy waste projects to achieve a carbon neutral Otley by 2030.”
In March Otley became the second town in Yorkshire to declare a Climate Emergency following a unanimous vote of the Town Council. The resolution also set a 2030 target ‘carbon neutral’ target.
