THE Ilkley and District Good Neighbours charity has appointed a new co-ordinator for its popular project Moving On, which offers companionship, guidance and support to over-60s in the community.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Amy Robinson to our team,” said charity trustee Anita Dunford. “ She has a wealth of experience in the voluntary sector and is keen to build on the success of the Moving On group, where we help people to meet up in a friendly environment, to chat with someone who has time to listen, to make new friends, and discover things to do locally.”

Apart from its regular Moving On weekly sessions every Thursday morning at the Clarke Foley Centre, the project also has a range of activities, from trips to the theatre, pantomime shows, and visits to places such as the Science and Media Museum in Bradford.

“I’m absolutely delighted to take on this new role,” said Amy. “As well as the weekly sessions we hold I’m looking to develop our current range of excursions so the group can enjoy even more interesting trips this year.

“ In addition we will be focusing on our regular guest speakers, which have proved very popular, covering important subjects such as Healthy Eating, Staying Safe Online, Scam Prevention, and helpful themes such as simply staying steady on your feet as you age. Looking ahead, we have some great speakers and informative subjects planned for the future.”

The Moving On project also delves into social history with its guest speakers. It recently featured a well-received and informative talk by Maria Glot from the Saltaire Village Experience on mill-owner Sir Titus Salt.

If you are interested in finding out about what Moving On has to offer, the group meets every Thursday at the Clarke Foley Centre from 10.30am to noon.

“ If anyone feels they would like just to pop in, even if it’s simply for a chat to see what we have to offer, they will be made very welcome,” added Amy. Email: movingon@goodneighboursilkley.org.uk or phone 01943 603348.
