ILKLEY Camera Club members aim to be kings of the castle when they take their best work to show at Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley.

The Club’s free photography exhibition features 120 superb prints and runs from Saturday, May 4 to Sunday, July 14. These great photos represent just a small selection of what is on show.

Announcing the event, Club President Larry James said: “There will be something for everyone here. Subjects range from wildlife, landscapes and architecture to portraits, street scenes and creative images. We also encourage visitors to have their say and vote for the images they like best.”

The public are invited to a free reception in the conservatory on the ground floor at Cliffe Castle at 1.30pm on May 4 followed at 2pm by the official opening of the Exhibition upstairs by Howard Tate, the President of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. Mr Tate said: “Photography is a most rewarding hobby and to get the most from it you can’t do better than join a good camera club. Ilkley’s club is one of the best in Yorkshire so I am sure the Exhibition will be enjoyed by photographers and the general public alike.”

Larry James added: “Cliffe Castle is a superb venue to show our work. The lighting is first rate and the museum staff are really helpful in hanging the prints so everyone can see them to best effect.”

On selected Saturdays and Sundays during the run there will be eight free public lectures on photography. Talks organiser Peter Farmer said: “These fascinating talks will show participants how they can improve their photography by developing their technical skills and creativity. We have talks about starting out in photography and we also cover general principles and the more technical aspects. The talks will run from noon for up to 90 minutes on 5, 12, 18 and 25 May and 1, 15, 22 and 30 June. You can just turn up but ideally book a place by ringing Cliff Castle Museum on 01535 618231.”

The Museum is on Spring Gardens Lane, Keighley BD20 6LH and is open: Tuesday to Friday 10am – 4pm; Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holiday Mondays 11am – 4pm; last admission 3.30pm. The Exhibition Gallery is accessed via a flight of stairs so, for those who cannot negotiate them, the Club has arranged to have a folder containing copies of all the works on the ground floor.
