GUISELEY is set to hold its own miniature literature festival this weekend.

The Weekend of Words will be staged by The Bramble Bakehouse from Friday, March 29 to Sunday, March 31. It will feature an array of literary themed events including talks, games, quizzes and workshops for all ages.

Two Guiseley based authors will be talking about their published novels at an event from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, March 29.

Leona Deakin, author of Mindgames - a thriller due to be released in July by Black Swan publishers - will be delving into her experience of writing and publishing her very first novel at the event. This will be Deakin’s first public appearance to promote the novel.

Also taking part is distinguished Guiseley author, Ed Bowie, who will be reading extracts from his books, as well as talking about the importance of the reader. Bowie has nine ‘adventure’ novels under his belt, with more in the pipeline.

Joanne Adams, owner of the Bramble Bakehouse, said:”Through our Weekend of Words, we really hope to draw attention to the level of talent in our area that is often overlooked, as well as providing activities that you can’t access in our area outside of the bigger Ilkley and Bradford Literature Festivals.

Not only will our event support local authors, but give other practitioners and community organisations, an opportunity to showcase the fantastic work they are doing in the community. We have something for everyone on offer from adult singing and signing sessions, to a fun literary quiz, as well as language sessions, kids story-time and a jolly phonics session for parents and grandparents.”

On March 31, the events will also feature a Mothers Day offer of a cake voucher for mums. Tickets for any of the events can be booked by email at mail@bramblebakehouse.co.uk or in the cafe.
