TOWNS and villages along this year’s Tour de Yorkshire route are being urged to ‘dress up’ for the occasion.

The 2019 edition of the cycle race takes place from Thursday, May 2 to Sunday, May 5 and will attract some of the world’s best riders.

Bramhope, Pool-in-Wharfedale, Leathley, Blubberhouses and Otley will all be involved in the action this year. The event’s Best Dressed Competition is now up and running and encourages communities to create eye-catching decorations.

The competition has four categories - Best Dressed Village, Best Dressed Town, Best Dressed Host Location and Spirit of Le Tour - and has inspired everything from spotty houses to dyed sheep.

Commercial Director of Welcome to Yorkshire, Peter Dodd, said: “We’re encouraging people to get their village, town or city fully decorated by Easter to make sure they benefit during this peak tourism period ahead of the race.” Full entry details can be found at letouryorkshire.com/bestdressed .
