PROPOSALS to cut the speed limit between Otley and Old Pool Bank have been dropped.
Leeds City Council was planning to introduce a 50mph limit on the currently 60mph stretch of the A660 Leeds Road.
Some ‘forceful objections’, however, along with the fact the road section does not have a high injury-collision record, have caused it to abandon the idea.
The plan was linked to safety improvement works at Old Pool Bank - including extending its 40mph limit further down the A660 towards Otley - which will continue.
Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) said: “I am disappointed and concerned that some motorists will not reduce their speed quick enough. Motorists are finding it increasingly difficult to know what speed limits actually apply on any stretch of road.”
Calls for urgent road safety action at Old Pool Bank followed a tragedy there in June, 2017 when 18 year old Kate Whalley died after being hit by a speeding car.
