MP Alex Sobel has been nominated for an environmental award for the second year in a row.
Mr Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West) was first put forward for a Green Heart Hero Award in February, 2018.
Now he’s in the running for the accolade again, this time in the Greenest MP category, in recognition of his ongoing work to protect the environment.
The awards are run by the Climate Coalition as a way of giving ‘a big round of applause to the movers, shakers, and doers who are paving the way to a cleaner future’.
Over the past year Mr Sobel has been involved in a number of green campaigns including a ‘plastic free’ week and a fact-finding trip to the Arctic Circle - to see the effects of climate change - with the Environmental Audit Committee.
He also lobbied for funding for Leeds’ new Clean Air Zone, which the Government recently announced it would be supporting to the tune of £29 million.
He said: “I am very thankful for this opportunity to have been nominated for a Green Heart Hero Award once more and will continue to tackle the fight against pollution, aiming for a cleaner future.
“Climate change is the biggest threat we face and it is down to everyone to do their bit be that on a national, international or community level.”
Mr Sobel has also spoken out about the need for greener, more integrated public transport and proposed a ‘water fountain revolution’ as one way of tackling plastic waste.
